The most important factor to removing pet stains and odor is how quickly we can start working on it. If you act immediately and contact us right after your pet stains the rug and before it dries, we can easily remove the stain. If the stain is very old, our team will have to inspect it to decide on next steps.

No, we do not dry clean your rugs. The reason for this is because it could be extremely damaging to your valuable rug; you should never take your rug to the dry cleaners! Dry cleaning can damage a rug’s fiber by removing its protective lanolin. Taking your rug to a dry cleaner is like taking a fur coat to a car wash; it’s a very risky choice and you may not get good (or repairable) results.
Due to the fibers in your rug, it can easily attract mildew. If caught early, our team can remove mildew and the unpleasant musty smell that comes with it. If the mildew is deep in the foundation of the rug, we will need to do an in-person inspection to see what we can do next.
There are various factors to look for to decipher the quality of a rug, and it also depends on the style of the rug. A few things that typically show quality are the number and intricacy of the knots, the design, and the caliber of the wool used (it should feel oily and full of lanolin).
Knowing the difference between these various rug constructions is important, as it will often affect the pricing and value.
- Hand-woven is a blanket term used to describe all the other types listed above.
- Hand-tufted and Hand-hooked are pretty much the same processes. They are made using a grid-like backing, and the yarn is looped and tied in patterns on the grid. The back is often glued and covered with canvas. The main difference between these two is that in the final stage of production, a hand-tufted carpet is shaved on top, so you see the pile.
- Hand-knotted rugs are typically what are thought of when someone hears the term “handwoven.” These rugs are tightly knotted by hand so that there is no need for glue to hold the carpet together. They can last for many generations. Since they take so long to create, they are usually more expensive.
